Andy started in the Film and TV industry at the age of 16 having spent his younger teens making Super 8 and 16mm films at the Nottingham Film Workshop. In 1981, he secured a job at the BBC - initially in the sound department. As the years progressed, he worked in location, outside broadcast and studio sound, always maintaining an interest in all aspects of the industry - particularly lighting.
Andy moved forward into theatrical and stage lighting whilst continuing his journey through films and television, in particular: current affairs, outside broadcast events, music, light entertainment, drama, sport and schools programming.
He has also worked on independent films, mainstream motion pictures and television movies (essentially the content now provided by steaming companies such as Netflix, Disney, Amazon, etc).
The last 20 years have seen Andy mainly in the lighting department, frequently working as a Lighting Gaffer working with a team of lighting electricians and a Director of Photography or Studio Lighting Director to produce many commercials (both online and mainstream), film and television, as well as corporate films. He has also worked with many independent film makers.
Andy says, “I started my career making independent films, struggling to scrape budgets together to allow me to put my creations and art on film. So, I see it fit as I come to the gradual end of my journey, to help out those who are entering the path I chose. Hoping I can pass on years of experience and knowledge. There is no right or wrong way to create a piece of motion picture art. But having appropriate financing certainly helps move that dream forwards - allowing expression and creativity to live on the screen.”
